Introduction

The eSecurityConsole is a utility that allows management of security services using Cryptographic Service Provider (CSP) Key Containers and Digital Certificates.   All Microsoft Windows operating systems, except for Windows 95 (R), allow third party vendors to supply their own security services to the system.  These services are stored in the operating system and are identified uniquely by their Cryptographic Service Provider name.  The system also provides facilities to store and manage digital certificates in Certificate Stores.  Multiple certificate stores are available to store the different categories of digital certificates in the system.

This version of eSecurityConsole utility directly invokes methods and properties of the Framework EDI (FREDI) component in managing and applying the security services.

Starting eSecurityConsole

When the eSecurityConsole is launched, it immediately collects information of all the CSPs in the system, and displays these CSPs in a list.  The start up only gathers key containers of the CSP that are available for the logon user only.  Once the application has been launched, the following resources are displayed in a hierarchical structure.  In this hierarchy, the nested sub object is an item belonging to the object that directly nests it.

The information hierarchy to view digital certificates in the system is as follows:
